How to handle communication and confict with boss?

Scenario

A manager SMS boss to not to delay subordinate A's increment to Jul (proposed to pay in Jun.On 19 June 1912,

Manager justified by commenting that subordinate A is more focused and completed more assignments than another subordinate B. Boss was not happy and said that manager has favouritism on A.
(Conflict 1 - Boss does not agree with manager's assessment as boss has preference for B)
Manager on the other hand sees the potential in A and tries to encourage A to work better.                          Boss does not know that Manager finds subordinate B lacking focus and was working on a
                   slower pace

Manager told boss that the company has actually expressed fav on B when B was confirmed earlier than F who was employed earlier. After the earlier confirmation, B demonstrated a lackadaisical attitude. F on the other hand was threatened to be terminated and hence has worked very hard to proof himself.

Manager's conclusion : Staff response is due to management action.

Boss on the other hand has another agenda:
Boss wants manager to transfer all knowledge to B but B is not willing to learn.
Would the manager be willing to do that ?

How would you handle this situation with boss?

1. Let Boss be right (Remember Boss is always right). If Boss feels that A does not deserve an increment, then tell A that Boss needs some time to be convinced.

2. Leave B alone during B's honeymoon period to enjoy Boss preference for B until Boss sees it himself the effect of his special preference for B. Don't be too smart to point out Boss' misjudgment (Remember, Boss is always right). Let Bosses see the consequence and judge it by themselves. Wait a little while doesn't hurt the oompany. Bosses also need time to learn (same learning curve).
